This is Roald. The cat I made for my graduation short ‘The Library of Things’.
The style of the cat is based on the main character of the short. The model is made in Zbrush and the retopology is done in Maya. For the texture, I used Substance Painter. I chose to make Roald a bit Yellow to let him integrate into the library without using the direct same color as used in the library.

For the grooming I used Xgen. I didn’t use Xgen before this project and the grooming of Marijke (the main character) was my first Xgen groom. We didn’t use Yeti because we didn’t have enough licenses to fit it correctly in or Pipeline.

For Roald his groom I used references of cat hair but wanted to give it a cartoonish feeling. The main thing for me was to give the realistic directions but the clumping and the noise of the hair not exactly the same as the reference.
